As I prepare for the upcoming Fire and Rain Conference this weekend with Lora Allison and her incredible assembly of prophets, I consider the thought of Fire and Rain in the same place. I believe nothing is too hard for God, but how do both occupy the same place, and what does the manifestation of fire and rain have to do with each other? As I often have questions, I look to the Mighty Word of God for answers. Where do fire and rain occupy the same place in the Word of God and what is its significance? I am reminded of 1Kings 18 where fire and rain occur in the same place and in the same chapter. It begins with a showdown between the prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal...and begins with water...and it began with a question in verse 21, "How long will you waiver between two opinions?"  I ask you the same question. Houston how long will you waiver between two opinions? And so as you know the story, Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to a dual...by fire in verses 22-24

22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”

Then all the people said, “What you say is good.” 1 Kings 18: 22-24

So of course they accepted the challenge and worked themselves into a frenzy all day trying to get their god to answer, even more so as Elijah taunted them to shout louder!

Then it was Elijah's turn and in verses 30-35, he directed the people to not only repair the altar in disrepair, but he assembled twelve stones, one for each tribe in remembrance of the Lord's Promised Word, "Your Name shall be Israel." And they poured water over the offering, spilling into the trenches, not once but three times.

30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Your name shall be Israel.” 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seah of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood.”

34 “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again.

“Do it a third time,” he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.

36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!” 1 Kings 18: 30-39

So we see the Fire of God not only consume the sacrifice, but consume the water drenched sacrifice and licking up all the water that filled the surrounding trenches! After we see the manifestation of fire, the demonstration of the One True Living God, then we see the manifestation of Rain in verses 41-46.

41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” NIV

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. KJV

I love the way the King James Version puts it, "...the sound of abundance of rain." So we read the rest of the story where Elijah sends his servant seven times to "look toward the sea" for the sign of the abundance of rain in verses 42-46.

42 So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. 43 “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked.“There is nothing there,” he said.  Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.”

44 The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.”  So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”  45 Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. 46 The power of the Lord came on Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel. 1 Kings 18: 42-46

Both the Fire and the Rain demonstrated the Power of God. The Fire that licked up all the water and soggy sacrifice persuaded the people who their True God was. There was no alternate opinion, only one God, only one Powerful God worthy of their worship! The Rain was the sign of promise and abundance and life to the region and to the People of God! Fire and Rain!

I am reminded of another instance of fire and rain we see in the Natural realm. In the forests of California and the Western region of our nation, scientists discovered the purpose of even devastating wildfires that rage out of control and burn up many forest areas make way for new life, and even greater life. Many of the seeds of certain trees are only opened through the fires, which allows them to release the seeds to germinate new trees and new life in the forest! There is purpose in the fire...to release seeds of new germination of new generations of life! It was for the perpetuating of new and constant renewal for the forest and new life to come from devastation and ashes of former things. Interesting that Texas has also experienced this same phenomenon of fire and then rain...

One more thing...I believe that God works through possession of the land. I believe that God brings powerful voices and great leaders from the outside into a region to spark and ignite and blow upon the embers of fading fires for the purpose of renewal and a building up and edification to the region. But I also believe that God raises up from the ground up, and revival comes to those who have sown in tears and in years of pressing and pursuit of revival and righteousness in the land. I believe the significance of this upcoming Fire and Rain 2015 conference is that there is a synergy from those who have faithfully contended for the Land, Rev. Lora Allison and her Company of resident prophets joined with the incredible lineup of seasoned prophetic pioneering voices coming together to declare in one voice what God is doing in our region of Houston! We welcome these experienced prophets, Dutch Sheets, Stacey Campbell, Julie Meyer, Steve Swanson, Janet Shell and Ryan and Sara Delling and are excited about the Fire and the Rain demonstrated in our midst.  Many local prophetic Worshippers will also sow into this conference with worship and prayer continually between the Conference sessions. It is a great time to come and offer yourself up as a living sacrifice and to soak in Living waters of renewal and refreshing...Fire and Rain! Please come out and be a participator, not just a spectator to the Glory of God that shall be released in this unprecedented time of preparation for the Wildfire and Rushing Rivers of Revival! And Houston will no longer waiver between two opinions! The Lord - He is God, the One True Living God, He will we serve!

See you in the Fire and the Rain,

Raelynn Parkin
