When I get to Heaven is a song that Raelynn Parkin began in 1993 but never finished.  When her husband Paul began to write a children's Easter play, this song found its perfected form.  This song is about a child who is captive in a wheel chair but dreams of one day walking if not in this earth then with Jesus on Heaven.

Verse 1:
They gathered one day in Sunday School
They talked of dreams of who they’d be
One shy little psalmist began to say
This is who I want to be someday.

Chorus 1:
When I get to Heaven, I want to sing like David
When I get to Heaven, I want my song to touch God’s own heart
When I get to heaven, A royal King and Priest I’ll be
Oh God please hear my prayer
I want to be like David when I get there.

Verse 2:
Then another child spoke
He stuttered and clammered for every word he could
All of Heaven turned their ear
As he spoke his imperfect prayer.

Chorus 2:
When I get to Heaven, I want to be like Moses
When I get to Heaven, I want to speak and the waters part
When I get to Heaven, Signs and wonders I’ll declare
Oh God please hear my prayer
I want to be like Moses when I get there.

Verse 3:
One child sat straight up
With excitement in his face
As he straightened his legs in his wheelchair
He closed his eyes to imagine he could be
As he spoke these words of faith.

Chorus 3:
When I get to heaven, I want to walk like Jesus
When I get to Heaven, I want to walk the streets of gold.
When I get to Heaven, I want to walk with my Jesus.
Oh God, please hear my prayer,
I want to be like Jesus when I get there.

Chorus 4:
When I get to heaven, I want to walk like Jesus
When I get to Heaven,
The lame shall walk and the dumb shall speak,
When I get to Heaven, I want to walk with my Jesus.
Oh God, please hear my prayer,
I want to be like Jesus when I get there.
